The history begins when a hospital was built on the Poveglia Island for the ill in 1922. The doctor of the hospital performed rigorous experimentations with the patients since they started out to see the dead. The doctor was then pushed from the top of the Poveglia bell tower by unseen hands. According to that same legend, he survived the fall, but was 'strangled by a mist that came up from the ground'. To step foot on the Poveglia Island is to bestow fearfulness to your feels. You walk amongst ash, or what many believe to be human ash. You feel breaths upon your neck and feel your hair stand on end. And once in a while you frequently question if that is really screaming that you hear. You also feel an imminent danger, and a need to get off the island. At one point you see moving shadows that make you wondering what that is. You may not believe inwards haunts, merely there has something about the Poveglia Island that is different feeling and will make you believe in something.

Nowadays the Poveglia Island is used as vineyards and other cultivations. Poveglia is not visitable and is not open to tourists.
